Sandy Springs Toastmasters met on Zoom at 7 a.m. Next meeting November 19th, 2020.
Bud Otto, Sergeant at Arms and Toastmaster of the day, opened the meeting and led us in the pledge of allegiance.
There were 11 members and one guest present. Our newest
member is Morgan Henderson. Welcome, Morgan! We also had one guest,
Kwasi Crawford.
Una Richards, President, introduced Katherine Vega, our
Toastmasters District 44 director. Katherine spoke briefly about our
district, updating us on what was happening, and invited our club members to
watch their speech contest on Zoom.
Bud then called on Anastasia Pass to give us the word
of the day. She gave us Solipsism-the view or theory that only one’s mind is sure to
exist.
Apoorva
Salimath volunteered as Timer/Vote Counter. Jim Owen was ah/
counter-grammarian.
Una led
us in Table Topics – with “Tough Questions” such as what would you do if you
were dictator of a small country, and “give an example of weird things that are
socially acceptable”.
Crystal Reeves won
best table topics.
Riquet
Caballero gave a thought-provoking speech on “Why you Should be a Stoic”, (a
person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or
complaining).
At members’
request, he has offered to send out a copy of his speech and will follow up
with a second speech on this topic at a later date.
Sam Gadebusch
gave the evaluation of Riquet’s speech.
There being no
further business, the meeting was adjourned.

A note to our new members: We’re glad you joined us, and we’re here to
help you get off to a good start. Since our virtual meetings don’t easily give
new members an
opportunity to ask questions,
please feel free to contact Una or me if you have question about how this all
works.
