Sandy Springs Toastmasters 02/07/2019 Meeting Recap

At 7 am, Bud Otto called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance. We had 17 people in attendance, 13 of whom were members and 4 were guests.

Our Club President, Paige Kerr, gave opening remarks and welcomed all our guests, Errington Watkins, Dan Collins, Gundeep Singh, and Gar Bodenheimer. Paige then turned the meeting over to the Toastmaster of the day, Jim Owen.

Jim filled all the roles.

Bud gave the word of the day. Dystopia- A society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding.

The setup of this meeting was a little different. Our regular meetings always have three parts to them, Table Topics, Prepared speeches, and then evaluation. However, this time, since our speaker for the day had to leave early, we had prepared speeches first, then Evaluations, and finally Table Topics.

Steve Bragg, a long time member of The Sandy Springs Toastmasters, gave a heartfelt and lighthearted speech titled “How I got prostrate with my prostate”. Steve talked about his recent battle with prostate cancer and his journey to finally being cancer free. His speech was motivational, informative, and touching. We were all grateful for his candidness. The group gave Steve an insightful evaluation.

Steve won Best Speaker.

The group took a brief five-minute break then reconvened. Jim called on the Toastmaster of the Day, Crystal Reeves to take over the meeting. Crystal’s Table Topics Theme was “Three Things”. She had very entertaining and thought-provoking questions prepared for us. Her questions ranged from “What are three things you can’t go without?” to “What are the three things you believe are important in a relationship?” Carlos Fuentes won Best Table Topics Answer. He was asked “Who are your three celebrity crushes?” to which he humorously answered, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Sandra Bullock.

Paige went over next week’s agenda. The meeting was adjourned.
