ALL MEETINGS VIA ZOOM GOING FORWARD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!
Today’s meeting was via Zoom. This was our first virtual meeting.
Kudos and thank you’s to member, Magdalena Raj for setting up the
Zoom meeting using her account. Magdalena prepared well for the meeting as she had
previously attended another Toastmaster group Zoom meeting and shared the
experience and ideas.
We followed as many existing protocols as possible and discussed
how to adjust for this medium. For example, instead of applause, we waived our
hands! The meeting was less formal; however we discussed ways to maintain some
of our formalities to ensure that speakers are provided a proper platform to
speak without interruption. That said, it was a fun meeting and we are in the
learning mode.
Next steps will include:
·
Obtaining a Zoom account ($150/year) for the club.
·
Continuing to use Magdalena’s account until then. She will set up recurring meetings for us. Link to follow.
·
Establishing a protocol slide in order to ensure these meetings
are effective and efficient!
·
Determining how (or even if) we continue the “voting” on Table
Topics, Speakers and Evaluators.
During this meeting, Sergeant at Arms, Bud Otto said the Pledge of
Allegiance. Magdalena served as Toastmaster. Magdalena asked great questions such
as: Who would you like to be right now?
Who would you not like to be right now? With the exception of toilet paper (J), what one thing do you miss not having?
Members evaluated the meeting. Most agreed this is a very doable
way to meet, though already miss our in-person meetings!
