NO MEETING ON THANKSGIVING DAY, THURSDAY,
NOVEMBER 28TH!
Sergeant
at Arms, Bud Otto, called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Club President, Una Richards talked about being grateful and posed the theme of
the meeting as being grateful in what we have and what we are learning.
Vice-President
of Education and Toastmaster, Andy Kallenberg reflected on his own learning –
learning to be a better speaker – be prepared, know your topic, and visualize
success! He gleaned this information from the Mayo Clinic in reading about
Glossophobia – the fear of public speaking.
In
addition to Table Topics, led by member, Jimmy Sidol, we had two informative
speeches.
Jimmy
asked thought-provoking questions about the “modern world” of communications.
Questions posed included “Text or phone?”; Droid over iPhone?”; “What has been
the best improvement so far?; “What has created more problems?” Bud won for his
response.
Colbi
Ellison asked for a group evaluation of his speech which was a part of a longer
presentation that he is delivering in December. His topic, interestingly enough,
revolved around communications, in particular, email, phone and chat. The group
gave feedback on the content as he was looking for additional activities to
include in the speech.
Crystal
Reeves also delivered a speech on communications, specifically how to get your
message across, In this speech, Crystal focused on what the listener hears. She
delivered information from the ASTD (Association for Talent Development) about
learner styles: common sense learners, dynamic learners, analytical learners
and imaginative learners.
