Meeting Recap
Sergeant-at-arms, Bud Otto called the meeting to order at 7 AM.
Una Richards, Vice President of Education (VPE) made opening
comments and shared that the World Wide Web (www) celebrated its 30th anniversary
this past Tuesday remarking that it shows how far we have come since then. Una
also noted that we are close to obtaining Distinguished Club (DC) status,
reminding everyone to renew their membership before March 31. Achieving a
minimum of 20 members is required to achieve DC status. Though not the only DC
requirement, if our membership numbers are not met, DC status cannot be
awarded. Una was also Toastmaster for the meeting.
The meeting was turned over to the Table Topics Master for the
day, David Kulze. David’s table topic theme centered around “moving” because he
is in the process of moving and realized that over time, he has accumulated
many items and need to part with some of them. Therefore, the table topics were
“what items would you keep, get rid or do without”. There was a tie for the
winner – Magdalena Raj and Wright Paulk. Magdalena answer was, she
if she had to, she could go without a dishwasher, but keep her washer and
dryer. Wright’s answer centered around having a cell phone or a bed. He chose
his cell phone, because his new smart phone was smarter than him, because he
can ask any question and get an answer.
Bud Otto was the only speaker. In his speech “The Quiet
Generation”, Bud vividly described what it was like for him and his generation
growing up between WWII and the Vietnam War. It was very informative,
insightful and humorous. Jim Owens evaluated Bud on his well thought out and
organized presentation.
Una informed the members that we will be having a guest speaker on
March 21, Addison Greenberg. Thirteen years old, she won the first round of the
Optimist Oratorical contest held two weeks ago. Paige Kerr and Crystal Reeves
were judges at this event. Addison won this same contest two years ago and
presented to our club at that time as well. Her presentation next week will
help her in preparation for the next round of competition!
The roles for next week were reviewed and the meeting was
adjourned.
