Sandy Springs Toastmasters 11/08/18 meeting recap and 11/15/18 Roles

Hello, Sandy Springs Toastmasters!

Sandy Springs Toastmasters 11/08/18 Meeting Recap
We had slim pickings this morning. A lot of our members were out of town, therefore, the room was not as full as it usual but, we made it work! Jim Owen was the champion of the meeting by performing triple duty! He was originally scheduled as Toastmaster of the day, but since two of our key members were absent, he gracefully volunteered to fill in for their roles in addition to his role for the day. Jim filled in as Sergeant at Arms, a role usually performed by Bud Otto, and as Presiding Officer, a role performed by our club president Paige Kerr.

As the Sergeant at Arms of the day, Jim called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance. He then gave opening remarks, a task usually performed by our club president, Paige Kerr.

Jim performed his task as Toastmaster of the Day. He went over the agenda for the day and filled all the roles.

The word of the day was given by Steve Bragg. Verisimilar- Having the appearance of truth. The painting of the peacock was verisimilar to the bird.

Jim then called Jeanne McDaniel, our Table Topics Master of the day, to the front of the room. Jeanne had prepared a fun set of questions centered around nutrition. She asked questions such as “What was the best nutrition advice you’ve ever gotten?” and “What is the craziest diet you’ve ever been on?” and “Have you ever used a fitness tracker? If so, how did it work for you?” Steve Bragg won Best Table Topics Answer.

The group took a brief break then reconvened. We had two speakers scheduled for the day, Carlos Fuentes and Una Richards.

The first speaker, Carlos gave his 4 to 6 minute icebreaker speech from his pathways presentation titled “To all my teachers”. During his speech, Carlos invited us into his life and told us about the teachers who inspired him to be his best self from when he was a little kid to all the way to adulthood. His sincere voice and engaging story had us all look back and think of our own teachers who have made a positive impact in our lives and have made us a better person today. Etsehiwot gave an astute evaluation of Carlos’s speech.

The second speaker, Una Richards delivered the second part of her speech based on her book “Pull The Darn Trigger” where she gave us strategies on how to achieve our goals. Sharon Reid gave an insightful evaluation of Una’s speech.

Carlos won Best Speaker. Etsehiwot and Sharon lost out on their chance to win the Best Evaluator award as they both went over the time limit while delivering their observations.

Una, who is also our club Vice President of Education, went over the roles for next week.
The meeting was then adjourned.
