Sandy Springs Toastmasters 11/01/18 Meeting Recap

Our Sergeant at Arms, Bud Otto, called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance. We had 12 members and one guest in attendance. Alan Magee, whom we hadn’t seen in a while, was in attendance. Welcome back, Alan!

Paige Kerr, our club president, gave opening remarks and welcomed our guest, Bentley Boger. She then turned the meeting over to the Toastmaster of the day, Sharon Reid.

Sharon filled all the roles then gave the word of the day. Uber- Having the specified property to an extreme or excessive degree. An uber fancy restaurant.

Sharon called the Table Topic Master, Bud Otto, to the podium. Bud had prepared a fun set of table topic questions that revolved around movies. He had questions such as “What was the scariest movie you’ve ever watched. The Exorcist or Rosemary’s baby?” and “What is your favorite Clint Eastwood movie?” and many more. Jim Owen won Best Table Topics Answer.

The group took a brief coffee break and enjoyed some delicious pastries prepared by Magdalena Raj. The meeting reconvened after a few minutes. Our two speakers of the day, Etsehiwot Ezra and Una Richards, gave their speeches. Etsehiwot spoke first. She gave her 6th speech from the Competent Communicator handbook. Her speech was titled “The Three Lessons She Learned from the Few Times She Was Inebriated”. Magdalena gave an insightful evaluation of Etsehiwot’s speech. Our second speaker of the day, Una, gave the first part of her two-part speech based on her book “Pull The Darn Trigger” where she gave us strategies on how to achieve our goals. Rowen gave an astute evaluation of Una’s speech.

Etsehiwot won Best Speaker and Rowen won Best Evaluator.

Una, our Vice President of Education, went over the roles for next week. The meeting was then adjourned.

See you all on Thursday!
