10/18 Sandy Springs Toastmasters Meeting Recap and 10/25 Sandy Springs Toastmasters Roles

Hello, Sandy Springs Toastmasters!

Sandy Springs Toastmasters 10/18/18 Meeting Recap

Our Sergeant at Arms, Bud Otto, called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance.

Paige Kerr, the club president, gave opening remarks then turned the meeting over to the Toastmaster of the day, Millicent St. Claire.

Millicent’s theme for the meeting was “Lifelong Learning”.  It was a great choice of theme to set the day. After all, we are part of this club to be better public speakers in our lifelong journey of lifelong learning!

Jeanne McDaniel gave the word of the day. Ambivalent- Having mixed feelings about someone or something; being unable to choose between two, usually opposing, courses of action.

Millicent called the Table Topics Master of the day, Etsehiwot Ezra to the podium. Etsehiwot had us do something fun and new for this portion of the meeting. We usually had one person come up and answer the table topics question, she had two people come up and do conversational /discussion style table topics. She described a scenario where person 1 and person 2 had some sort of disagreement and were trying to reason with each other or convince the other person otherwise. The twist was, the first person that speaks had to start his or her sentence at the top of the alphabet and when the other person responded, he or she had to start his or her sentence with the next letter of the alphabet. The two participants had to go down the alphabet until the red light came on. Each group had to act out a different scenario and had to start at the top of the alphabet. Ralston Medouze and Crystal Reeves won Best Table Topics.

The group took a brief break and reconvened. Sharon Reid gave her icebreaker speech titled “Cradle to carrier” where she told us her life story and how she ended up being a respiratory therapist. Crystal Reeves gave an insightful evaluation of Sharon’s speech.

Sharon won Best Speaker and Crystal won Best Evaluator.
