Sandy Springs Toastmasters 09/13 Meeting Recap and 09/20 Meeting Roles

Hello fellow toastmasters!

Important club announcements concerning pathways and membership dues:
1.      Our district’s pathways guide will be visiting our club on September 20th - this coming Thursday- to give us an overview of Pathways. If there is any possible way that you can attend that meeting, we highly recommend you do so because it will be extremely beneficial to your success with Toastmasters.
2.      Members are strongly encouraged to log into the Toastmasters website and take the pathways self assessment as well as watch the videos explaining what pathways is and how it works prior to our Pathways Guide’s visit.
3.      If you have specific questions regarding pathways after having taken the online self assessment and would like more information, please reach out to Una as soon as possible. She will relay your concerns to the pathways guide so that he/she can include and personalize his/her presentation towards our club’s questions and concerns.

4.      If it is possible, please bring your laptops to the meeting so you can follow the guide as they navigate through the website.

5.      REMINDER: Toastmasters membership fees are due by October 1st, 2018 for the 10/01/2018 through 03/31/19 session. The dues are $51.00 ($45.00 goes to Toastmasters International and $6.00 comes to our local club). Please use the link Speak Up! SandySprings Toastmasters to pay by credit card or your Paypal account or pay by check to one of the Sandy Springs officers. Please let our club treasurer Jim Owen know if you have any questions. Thank you.

Sandy Springs Toastmasters Meeting Recap for 9/13/18:

Jim Owen called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Paige Kerr, our club president, gave opening remarks then turned the meeting over to our Toastmaster, Una Richards.

Una’s theme for the day was “Set your intention to continuously grow”. She explained that if we took one little step a day towards our goal/dream, small baby steps, we would eventually get there. It was a great way to set the tone for the meeting. Una went on to fill all the roles then welcomed our returning guest Carlos who used to be a member of Toastmasters when he lived in Texas.

Una introduced our Table Topics Master of the day, Magdalena Raj. Magdalena’s theme revolved around “Culinary and Gastronomy”. Most of her questions had us travel back in time to when we were kids. She had us reminisce about our childhood favorite packed school lunches, our favorite pastry growing up, and she even had us remember the not so good memories of eating our most dreaded meals at the dinner table. Everyone’s answers were entertaining and funny. Una Richards won Best Table Topics answer.

The group took a short break and reconvened. Our two speakers of the day, Paige and Jim gave their speeches. Our first speaker Paige’s speech was titled “The Collector”. She talked about her mother’s collection of elephant artifacts and how they symbolized wisdom and eternity. Paige was evaluated by Etsehiwot Ezra. Our second speaker, Jim, gave a speech titled “Top 8 ways to get fired”. He was evaluated by the group.

Paige won Best Speaker and Etsehiwot won Best Evaluator.

The meeting was adjourned.

Roles For 09/20 Meeting:
There will not be any scheduled speeches for this meeting because the pathways presentation and the question and answer portion at the end of the presentation will take up most of the meeting time.

  • Word: Open

See you all on Thursday!
