Sandy Springs Toastmasters Meeting Recap for 8/16/18:
Our Sergeant-Arms, Bud Otto, Called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance.
Paige Kerr, our club president, gave opening remarks and called Una Richards, our club Vice President of Education, to give us the club announcements. Una announced the following:

  • Our club will be inviting our district’s Toastmasters Pathways Guide a second time around to come and give an overview of pathways within the next couple months.
  • Members are strongly encouraged to log into the toastmasters website and take the pathways self assessment as well as watch the videos explaining what pathways is and how it works prior to our district’s Toastmasters Pathways Guide’s visit.
  • If members have any questions regarding pathways, please reach out to Una.

Una turned the meeting over to our Toastmaster of the day- Anastasia Pass. Anastasia welcomed our returning guest, Wright, to the meeting and told him to introduce himself. Wright told us that he used to be a member of Toastmasters a long time ago and not only was he a member but he also served as officer and has held all the positions except for president. He will be joining our club because he would like to finish the Competent Communicator Manual he started years ago, when he was a member of toastmasters, so he can get started with the advanced level.
Anastasia’s Theme for the day was “Triple D”. The three Ds stood for direction, determination, and destination.
Anastasia called on Millicent St. Claire to give the word of the day, Integrity- The quality of being honest and having strong principles. “She is a woman of great integrity.”
Anastasia then called on the Table Topics Master of the day, Steve Bragg. Steve’s theme for his Table Topics questions was “Cars”. He told us the reason he chose the theme was because everyone is familiar with the topic AND he just bought a new car therefore he thought the theme was fitting for the day. Steve had prepared a very well thought out set of questions that ranged from “Could you imagine living without a car?” to “Is the stick shift dead?” to “Have you ever had a road rage incident?”. Crystal Reeves won Best Table Topics Answer for her hilarious answer to the question “Would you ever be into self-driving cars?”. Crystal answered by saying that she is one that is slow to warm up to new things and that if she wanted to ride in a car with someone not paying attention then she would ride with her husband.
We had no speakers therefore Anastasia gave her evaluation of the meeting and turned the meeting over to Paige. Paige went over the schedule since Una, our VPE, who usually fulfills this role at this time had to leave early. The meeting was then adjourned.
