Sandy Springs Toastmasters Meeting Recap for 8/02/18

Our Sergeant-At-Arms, Bud Otto, called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance. We had 13 members and 1 guest in attendance.

Paige Kerr, our club president, gave opening remarks and welcomed our guest Millicent St. Claire. Millicent is now a member of our club! She loved our meeting so much that she joined on the first day! Welcome to our club, Millicent! Paige then turned the meeting over to David Kulze who was our Toastmaster of the day.

David called on Paige to give Word Of The Day. The word she had for us was Tempestuous- Stormy or violent. The example Paige used was “The VPE of the club had a tempestuous relationship with the club President”.

David turned the meeting over to Etsehiwot Ezra "E", the Table Topics Master of the day. E’s table topics theme was based on ads. She gave each participant a magazine ad of a certain product and asked them to tell the rest of the group why they should not buy that product. Michael McConnell won Best Table Topics answer for his colorful and hilarious explanation of why the audience should not buy L’Oreal lipstick.

The group took a quick break, enjoying cookies from Sharon and scones from Magdalena and reconvened a few minutes later. Jim Owen was our only speaker of the day. Jim gave us a very informative speech titled “Worst mistakes you can make in retirement”. Crystal Reeves gave an insightful evaluation of Jim’s speech.

Jim won Best Speaker and Crystal Reeves won Best Evaluator.

Una Richards, our club’s Vice President of Education went over next week’s roles and then the meeting was adjourned.

See y’all on Thursday!

This google sheet allows members to select their role for the upcoming week. That information auto-populates our agenda template.

1. On the first worksheet: Upcoming Meeting Dates & Roles, select your name from the drop-down menu for the corresponding role.

2. Don't do anything on the Member tab; that's what populates the drop-down menu.

3. The Weekly Agenda will auto-populate for the role you selected.

If the formulas in the cells on the Weekly Agenda sheet are broken, the agenda won't automatically fill in, but that's an easy fix that we can teach you.

In any case, the new goal is for members to select their assignment by a certain date prior to each weekly meeting. The TM, whoever selected that role, only needs to print the agenda.

We can keep up with history too. Another club has had great success with this. Let us know what you think!
