Sandy Springs Toastmaster 3-22-18 Meeting Recap

Today’s Toastmaster meeting was intimate but fun as always.  Crystal Reeves treated the 6 members and 1 guest (April Anderson) to mini donuts. Sergeant-At-Arms, Bud Otto, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and then shared that the original pledge of allegiance did not contain the phrase “one nation under God” until it was added during President Eisenhower’s term in 1954.
Bud turned the meeting over to the TM of the day, Crystal Reeves. Crystal reviewed the roles and asked our guest to introduce herself.  Bud shared the word of the day “Circumlocution” - a noun meaning verbal diarrhea, using too many words to say something, especially to avoid saying something clearly as politicians often do!
Colbi Ellison volunteered to fill in as the Table Topic Master.  He selected topics from a box of pre-prepared questions.  Each person picked a question out of the box randomly and then answered it. There was a three-way tie for best table topics.  Our guest voted to break the tie making David Kulze today’s Table Topics winner for his answer to the question “if he created a holiday, how would he commemorate and celebrate it?”  His holiday would be a “National Pig Out Day”.  Everyone would take a day off work and try different types of food from around the world and by doing so, he proposed that people would have a greater appreciation for each other.
Colbi Ellison gave a speech entitled “How to Sell a Pen”.  His goal was to sound authentic rather than just an aggressive salesman.  He engaged everyone by asking for volunteers as well as selecting individuals to participate in his demonstration of selling techniques. He also explained how to qualify individuals prior to the sale so that you don’t waste anyone’s time. His speech was fun and entertaining.

David Kulze gave Colbi constructive feedback, asked for some clarification and complimented him on is professional performance.  Colbi and David won Best Speaker and Best Evaluator by a landslide!  The meeting adjourned at 8:05am.  Have a great week and we’ll see you next time.
(Many thanks to Una Richards for serving as today's meeting Scribe!)
