Sandy Springs Toastmasters 11/9/17 Meeting Recap

To all Sandy Springs Toastmaster Club members and potential guests:  Despite the rain this morning, we had a good turnout.  And, due to our surprise environment change (we were moved from regular meeting space to workout room/library due to Sandy Springs Leadership Meeting) we were challenged to stay focused when we responded to Table Topics as well as Speakers.  Being experienced Toastmasters, all went well!

Our District 44 Council Meeting is going to be Saturday, Nov. 18 from 1:45pm-3:00pm at the Marriott Hotel on Windward Parkway, Alpharetta.  Please let Anastasia Pass know if you can attend.  Also, our very own Paige Kerr is a finalist in the Humorous Speech Contest which will also be 11/18, 8:15pm-10:30pm.  Tickets are $30 and need to be purchased by today thru Toastmasters.org. Lastly, just another reminder that Pathways is coming in May 2018 which is a new Toastmasters program that all of us will need to follow. Below are a few links to help get you acclimated to the new process.  If you don't have one already, you will need to establish a user name and password for toastmasters.org because this will be needed for Pathways.

What happens at our TM Club doesn't stay at TM Club!  So, here's what happened at the meeting today!  Jim Owen challenged all attendees and former member, Colbi Ellison, to respond to inspirational quotes made by famous figures in the sports world.  It was a long series of super quotes from super athletes and all the responses were very impressive.  Alas, only one winner for Best Table Topics and today's went to John Calloway for his response to Pat Riley's quote of  "no such things as life in between".  John shared his current mantra which is to respond to every decision with either a "hell yah" or a simple "no".

Andrea Miranda gave her 8th speech, the Visual Aids projects. This was her 2nd episode of Andrea's Cooking Corner but instead of cupcakes, this time it was simple ways to use food, (apple candle holders, donut acorns, pepperoni, cheese and crackers turkey) as your decor for the holidays rather than filling your attic with decorations.  John Callaway's speech was the Vocal Variety project.  He vociferously encouraged all of us to be sure that we have enough insurance coverage on our autos and homes and included an impactful personal anecdote of his wife's car accident.   Introductions and feedback were given to Andrea by Anastasia Pass and to John by Mel Getachew.  Andrea won Best Speaker and Mel won Best Evaluator.

See you next time!
