October 12 Meeting Recap

Hello fellow Sandy Springs Toastmasters and guests!

It was a pleasure seeing everyone today. Here are a few announcements to be aware of:

The Ignite Fall Conference is coming up in just a few short weeks. There is still some time left to purchase tickets to this informative and fun event. If you are ready to kick your speaking skills into high gear, you won't want to miss this. It will be held on 11/17-11/18 at the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta, 5750 Windward Parkway, Alpharetta. If you just want to go to see Paige Kerr kick some butt during her humorous speech contest, you can purchase tickets for $30here.

Just a reminder that you can always glance ahead to the roles you will be assigned to in the future, here on our Speak Up! Sandy Springs blog. If you have a role you need to fill, a speech to give, (to bring yourself closer to a CC or CL), or can't participate on a certain day, please let Melinda know and she will adjust the schedule accordingly.

Achievements of today's meeting:

Steve Bragg did a great job of stepping in to the role of Table Topics Master at the last minute and kept the tone flowing appropriately throughout. John Calloway won for best Table Topic explaining that he wears a pajama top under his suit coat for work because his best thoughts come to him while sleeping. Paige Kerr appreciated the group evaluation as she continues to prepare for the District humorous speech contest.

Tips and tools for improvement:

Each week I will be providing additional tools to give everyone the opportunity to be the best Speaker/Leader they can be! Bud Otto did a great job of keeping track of the Ah/Grammarian report. There is still continued use of uh's and so's and maybe even a like (guilty). Here is a great video that addresses this and how to practice not using them. Stay tuned as I continue to offer educational tips/tools/videos on improving ourselves and the quality of our meetings!
Everyone have a great weekend and we will see you next Thursday!
