Sandy Springs Toastmasters 9/8 Meeting Recap
Bud Otto opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by our President, Alan Magee, reminding current members to pay dues before 9/22 if at all possible. He also showed off the Blue Ribbon our club won for our growth and performance. George McPherson, our new guest, introduced himself, how he found us and why he wanted to attend. Several Toastmasters International contests are in process related to video, photos and social media and all are encouraged and invited to participate. Just contact Alan or Anastasia for details or check it out on Toastmasters website. Toastmaster, Darbie Saunders, filled all the absent roles and then masterfully led the remainder of the meeting, beginning with Bud Otto's word of the day, "lascivious". Michael McConnell's Table Topics theme was Labor Day and posed numerous Labor Day related scenarios and challenges. Anastasia won for best Table Topic response related to a mother-in-law's perspective of "labor". You had to be there. Vanessa Lane gave her 7th speech, Research project, titled Sapelo Island and the Hog Hammock Community. It was a fact-filled lesson about the marvelous history of this sweet Georgia island and how the history continues today. Bud Otto also served as GE and closed out the meeting with his lighthearted overview of the entire meeting.
